According to the British Chambers of Commerce falling petrol prices are spurring a growth in retail sales. So, are you tempting consumers to spend that little extra they feel they have in your shop? It could well be a good time to spring clean your shopfittings and update your displays.
Slatwall panels offer an inexpensive and versatile solution for all your retail display needs and are particularly beneficial for smaller outlets, where space is of a premium. They can be re-merchandised quickly and easily and some innovative retailers are even finding ways to customise their slatwall displays providing new looks for every season.
Andrea Turner, product manager for slatwall displays at Morplan, says she is seeing some really creative uses of the wall panels in particular as retailers vie for the eye of the consumer.
Andrea comments, “Slatwall panels come in a range of colours and effects but while white remains the most popular choice, we are increasingly seeing customised displays where imaginative retailers have opted for great value MDF panels and then painted and stylised them. I’ve seen panels cut into eye-catching shapes such as flowers or clouds to stunning effect, while others have fitted them inside cupboards or even inside picture frames.”
As the cheapest option anyway – you can get an MDF slatwall from Morplan for under £16 – these can be updated every season and replaced at a reasonable cost when the time comes.
Of course if you are going to go cutting out your panel you don’t want to be paying for overly large display area’s. Again, Morplan comes into it’s own here – offering smaller sized slatwalls that are half the width of a standard one. Such a size means they are easily transportable, so can be taken to exhibitions and pop up shops, and it also means the panels can be cut without worrying about excess wastage.
Of course for ultimate ease, retailers can simply purchase a ready made double sided gondola with slatwall paneling, or a revolving tower – a superb choice for high density displays when space is tight. The same choice of finishes applies, and all sorts of imaginative hanging configurations can be created with the fittings.
The choice of slatwall fittings is now so expansive and the fittings so inexpensive (a slatwall prong from Morplan’s Essentials range can cost as little as 23p), that even cash strapped retailers can afford to refresh their displays regularly and with relative ease.
Metal slatwall fittings tend to lend themselves more to hanging items. Choose from racks and rails that allow products to be hung in dense volumes, for example on a prong, with a clear ticket indicator at the end. Or opt for arms with notches or pins that ensure items such as clothing remain hung equidistance apart to allow for easier browsing and less crushing of the garments.
Acrylic slatwall fittings expand your display options even further. Use these to merchandise in tiered racks, multi-compartment mini bins or even just to add lightweight shelving – allowing a side on view of shoes, for example, so that they look like they are floating against the wall.
Re-arranging products and displays is a surefire way to encourage footfall, so do check out the latest ranges of fittings to see how you could show off your wares to best effect, says Andrea. “At Morplan we stock more than 130 different types of fitting – some are so space efficient that you could even expand your stockholding, for example hanging a gift wrap and tag dispenser flush against the wall behind the counter provides an inexpensive way to link sell wrapping for gift items and increase revenue at the same time.”
Finally, if you’ve ever wondered how some retailers seems to defy the laws of gravity with the items they display, it’s probably down to the plastic or aluminum slatwall inserts they are discretely popping in the slats of their display walls. These help reinforce the wall panels so that extra weight can be hung.
